To help Dubai reach its ambitious goal of becoming the world’s smartest city, the city government has set up a single digital platform for building permits.
This platform offers a variety of services, including building permit services from all licensing bodies, to consulting firms and construction firms.
The Dubai Building Permit Development Committee, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, concluded the unification process. The committee is speeding up the completion of services by developing systems and requirements to increase customer satisfaction. It is led by the CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Engineering and Planning Sector, and the licensing process includes people from different government departments.
In the past year, the Dubai Municipality’s building department has handled over 50,000 transactions.
Contractors and consultants won’t have to use many different systems to get building permits. Instead, they will be able to do business with all licensing agencies through a single system and a unified entry using the UAE Pass. This will save them time and effort.
The window offers building licensing services from Dubai Municipality, Dubai Development Authority, Trakhees, and Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority, as well as being electronically linked to Dubai Municipality’s Dubai Engineering Qualification System. The conditions for applying to the single window are in conformity with the Dubai Building Code, which was recently released. It works with Building Information Modeling, Geographic Information Systems, and Automated Blueprint Auditing.
The platform connects all entities involved in the building permission procedure, including Civil Defense, RTA, DEWA, and telecommunications firms (Etisalat/Du). Customers can now do everything they need to do for building permits, execution, and service delivery in one place. This saves them time and effort.
For building, there are only three steps. The Dubai Municipality has also streamlined and integrated the steps for obtaining building licenses to meet global demand. It has streamlined the application process, decreased documentation requirements, simplified procedures, and cut transaction time in half. The building process was streamlined into three key steps:
- Obtaining a building permit
- Inspection in a unified manner
- Service execution and delivery
